MUMBAI: Sanya Malhotra shared recently in an interview how hard it was for her to become an actress. She said casting directors were sometimes mean, and even her family had their doubts initially. But Sanya kept believing in herself.

She thought she could be successful as an actress or a dancer. Even when her mom suggested she should get a bank job, Sanya didn’t give up on her dream. On internet sensation Uorfi Javed’s podcast, Sanya Malhotra talked about how confident she felt while looking for acting roles in Mumbai.

She was so certain about her talent that she didn’t even wear makeup for auditions. When asked about any bad experiences she had faced, she recalled a moment when someone suggested jaw reconstruction.

She continued, “Presently, they no longer criticise me. I am aware of my beauty. My confidence remains steadfast, although it may fluctuate, especially during my menstrual cycles. Additionally, I cope with endometriosis and have a cyst in my ovaries. However, despite these challenges, I maintained confidence when I commenced auditioning in Mumbai. I refrained from concern regarding hair and makeup as I had faith in my acting prowess. During my school days, I endured being teased for having a moustache by a boy. I countered, ‘Well, you lack one!’ Even then, I harboured certainty in my future as a leading lady.”

Asked if her parents opposed her career choice, Sanya Malhotra replied, “They were actually supportive … My mom had one rule: I had to finish my studies first … She wanted me to complete my post-graduation. Surprisingly, my dad was even more supportive. But my mom took me to three different astrologers, who all said I shouldn’t go into acting. They told her I should study economics and work in a bank. I said, ‘That’s not happening’.”

Sanya Malhotra is best known for films including Ludo, Dangal, Badhaai Ho, and Photograph. She was last seen in the film Sam Bahadur. Now, she is all set to appear in a slew of upcoming films including Bad Newz, Sunny Sanskari Ki Tulsi Kumari, Baby John, an untitled film with Bobby Deol, and another untitled film with Anurag Kashyap.
