MUMBAI: Trailer of Shakeela starring Richa Chadha and Pankaj Tripathi is out, directed by Indrajith Lankesh, and the film will hit the big screens this Christmas. The trailer takes us back to the 90s as the story is based on actress Shakeela’s life. Shakeela was an adult star of the 90s, who worked in South Indian films. During her peak time, the actress seriously challenged the popularity of the biggest stars of the time.
Richa, who plays Shakeela, has surely got into the skin of the character for the biopic. The trailer gives a clear account of how a young girl from a middle class family is forced to become an adult star, and how she keeps her conscience clean despite all adversaries. The movie shows how Shakeela, despite her conservative Muslim background, became a star in the adult film industry.
The trailer opens with the news of the popular star Silk Smitha’s suicide and the discussion about who can fill in the gap. The trailer then goes back to Shakeela's childhood and how she became one of the most desirable actresses onscreen. The film tracks the actress' controversial life. Pankaj Tripathi plays a leading hero, who will make you laugh with his dialogues. The trailer also gives a glimpse of the love, adulation and hate Shakeela received throughout her life.

At the end of the trailer, Shakeela is seen telling Pankaj’s character Salim that whatever she has done, she did it openly, and did so onscreen. She has not cheated anyone, and no one was forced to watch her films. Shakeela is the story of how so much happened to the actress while she touched success from nothing and then came back to nothing again.
Post-lockdown and after opening of cinema halls, Shakeela will be the first film to release in over 1000 screens and in five languages—Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam. Presented and produced by Sammys Magic Cinema Motion Picture Production and distributed by UFO, the film will hit the theatres on December 25, 2020.
