MUMBAI: Liju Krishna, director of the upcoming Malayalam film Padavettu, was arrested in Kerala's Kannur on Sunday, March 6, after being accused of rape. Liju (36), who hails from Mattannur in Kannur, was taken into custody following a complaint by a woman, filed at the Infopark police station in Kakkanad. With Liju's arrest, filming of Padavettu has come to a standstill.
He will be brought into Kochi and produced before the magistrate today, Kochi city police informed.
According to the police, he has been arrested for raping a woman, who is a native of Kakkanad in Kochi 2020 December to 2021 June at various places including her home.
The film director was arrested after a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) based on the woman's complaint.
Padavettu is the debut feature film of Liju Krishna as a director. He has also written the script for the film. Earlier, Sunny Wayne and Liju worked together for a play called Moment Just Before Death. Sunny directed the play and Liju produced it.
The shooting of Padavettu was proceeding in Kannur, Liju’s hometown, at the time he was taken into custody.
