Shoojit Sircar's Madras Cafe nominated for National awards

Good news for Shoojit Sircar. After having received accolades galore for his political thriller Madras Café from the world over, the film has been nominated for the National awards. Commented Sircar, "I am happy at my film being nominated for the National award. Though a work of fiction, it is based on research into real events, it has a resemblance to actual political events, dealing with civil war and the ideology of a rebel group." Though this John Abraham and Nargis Fakhri starrer that released last August didn’t manage to create a stir at the box-office in the country, it did manage to make an impression on both the Indian and overseas critics. The film is based on the Sri Lankan civil war that took place in the late ‘80s and ‘90s killing a number of innocent Sri Lankan Tamils.
