Siddharth Jain's next flick Kill The Rapist based on Delhi gang-rape case

Our film industry is famous for picking up stories from real life, dramatizing them and making films in order to attract patronage and make money in return. Like earlier, we had a couple of films highlighting the 2005 Mumbai floods, the most notable of them being the Emraan Hashmi and Soha Ali Khan-starrer Tum Mile. Similarly, a couple of films were made on the 26/11 Mumbai attack, Ram Gopal Varma’s The Attacks of 26/11 being the latest. And now, filmmakers are making films based on the brutal gang-rape in Delhi that shook the nation last December.

Similarly, a couple of films were made on the 26/11 Mumbai attack, Ram Gopal Varma’s The Attacks of 26/11 being the latest. And now, filmmakers are making films based on the brutal gang-rape in Delhi that shook the nation last December. The latest is that Siddharth Jain of iRock films has launched a film titled Kill The Rapist based on the Delhi gang rape. Avers Jain in a statement, “We will not be showing the rape at all. Once you take the rape route your film becomes exposed to charges of sensationalism and provocation.” Talking in detail, the producer says, “Our film is not about the trauma of rape, but on the contrary it’s a story of a young girl’s resourceful revenge. The film’s tagline is: Ab har ladki Nirbhaya.” The film will star a newcomer in the main role. She would be trained in the martial arts to project herself like a desi version of Uma Thurman in Kill Bill, according to Jain. The film is to be directed by Sanjay Chel. A few days ago we got to hear about a Telugu film being made inspired by the subject. The film directed by Ramana Gaddam has been titled Nisha. Gaddam’s idea is to send out a strong message to the government and public. “I'm not trying to cash in on the sensitivity of this issue but bring to light a barbaric act that shook our nation. I want to send a strong message through my film that such acts can't be taken lightly and the perpetrators should be punished severely,” Gaddam wrote in a text message. The film, though not based solely on the Delhi incident, has other commercial elements to make it an interesting watch. Nisha, produced by J. Dhanraj Goldee and starring Kiran Kumar, Ananya, Kalyan and Narsing in lead roles, is currently in the post-production stage.
