MUMBAI : The 1991 film Lamhe was not a blockbuster but it ended up winning 5 Filmfare awards and 1 National Award. However did you know that Sridevi who did a brilliant job at playing the lead was not the first choice for the film? It was actually Rekha and Amitabh’s pairing that was supposed to be in the film.

Yash Chopra thought of Lamhe during Silsila however, after Chandni was a huge success, Chopra cast Sridevi as her pairing with Anil Kapoor was a huge hit. It is said that the failure of Lamhe has a huge negative impact on Yash Chopra and he went into depression as he had a lot of expectations from the film.

Lamhe was directed and produced by Yash Chopra under his production banner Yash Raj films. It also starred Anupam Kher and Waheda Rehman in key roles.

Lamhe got critical acclaim for its modern love story and Sridevi stood out for playing the role of a mother and daughter.
