MUMBAI: In cinema, where the transformation of actors into their on-screen characters is a craft honed through relentless effort, Janhvi Kapoor's journey to become Mahi in "Mr. & Mrs. Mahi" stands as a testament to sheer dedication and perseverance. Stepping into the shoes of a cricketer, a sport she had never played before, Janhvi spent two years in rigorous training, transforming from a complete non-player to a seasoned cricketer.
To prepare for this demanding role, Janhvi trained under the guidance of coach Abhishek Nayar who crafted a comprehensive training regimen that pushed Janhvi to her limits. Despite suffering from injuries, dislocated shoulders and torn ligaments, Janhvi pushed through the pain. Her training was not just confined to the cricket ground but extended to strenuous workouts and sports drills designed to enhance her athletic prowess and stamina.
The prep also included a specialized training camp in Baroda. Here, she trained alongside international cricketers, closely observing their body language, movements, and techniques akin to preparing for an IPL match.
Reflecting on her transformative journey, Janhvi Kapoor shared, "Nothing could have prepared me for this role. I'm the most unathletic, non-sporty person on the planet. I knew nothing about the sport. I'm not going to say it was smooth sailing because it was a little turbulent, especially because the physicality of it was very draining and taxing, mentally as well. I think in my career so far there have only been a handful of scripts that have made me feel like if I'm not part of this I'll die and I felt that way about this film."
The dedication and intensity Janhvi brought to her role did not go unnoticed by those around her including director Sharan Sharma. Praising her commitment he said, "I genuinely don't know how she kind of pushed through the pain barrier and gave her five thousand percent through the training, through the shoot. She gave the film something that I don't think most actors would be able to commit that much intensity, passion, time to really push to get every detail correctly."
It's safe to say that "Mr. & Mrs. Mahi" is set to showcase not just a compelling story on screen but also Janhvi Kapoor's remarkable dedication behind it.
With 'Mr & Mrs Mahi', 'Ulajh', and her south debut 'Devara' opposite Junior NTR, Janhvi Kapoor ,with her strategic lineup of diverse films is not only captivating audiences but also breaking barriers by seamlessly navigating between different cinema industries.
