Tom Hardy admits he was a 'bog-standard alcoholic'
Actor Tom Hardy, who does not consume alcohol, revealed he was addicted to booze and cocaine until his mid-20s and went to rehab in 2003.
While appearing at the "Good Morning Britain's" show, the father of two admitted his past struggles helped him tap into the troubled psyche of his character in the new horror film Venom, in which he plays an investigative journalist whose body is invaded by an alien, reports suggest so.
He said, "For me, obviously, I'm a bog standard alcoholic for my whole life as it were, I'm in recovery now.
"There are elements of that, 'Okay, that's my inside voice, normally I would act out on that but that's not very good for me as a human being,' but this isn't me. This is a superhero entity thing. But I can see the symbolism there, 'Oh there's a grown-up, there's a man, I can't go out and bite people's heads off'."
Hardy's battle with drugs and booze started when he was just 11 and was warned by a policeman who visited his school about the dangers of sniffing glue.

Kim's former bodyguard sued $6 mn over Paris robbery
The insurance company that paid Kim Kardashian West after she was robbed of millions of dollars worth of jewellery in Paris two years ago is suing the reality TV star's former bodyguard.
American International Group (AIG) filed a lawsuit Wednesday in Delaware against Pascal Duvier and his company Protect Security seeking $6.1 million, according to court documents, reports suggest so.
AIG claims Duvier and the security firm "negligently, carelessly, and/or recklessly performed their protection, security, monitoring, inspection, and/or surveying of" Kim and the private apartment where she was staying for Paris Fashion Week in October 2016, according to the complaint.
In the document, AIG says when the defendants left, Kim was alone in her room and failed to address and correct several security breaches, including a missing or broken lock, a malfunctioning intercom and the lack of closed circuit television in the building. The company also says the building's concierge "did not have any security training and/or background".
She was held at gunpoint and robbed of an estimated $10 million in cash and jewellery by five men dressed as police officers.
The Paris prosecutor's office said a ring estimated in 2016 to be worth $4.49 million and a jewellery box with contents worth about $5.6 million was stolen too.
A source familiar with the incident told CNN at the time that Kim's security detail was with her sisters at a nightclub at the time of the robbery, but did not specify if that included Duvier.

We follow the travails of a lone gunfighter in the outer reaches of the galaxy far from the authority of the New Republic," Favreau said in a post on his Instagram account.
Disney is developing multiple live-action Star Wars TV series for its upcoming streaming service, which is designed to rival Netflix.
The platform, which won't launch until late 2019, will be the exclusive home for Marvel feature films and original series as well as Pixar and other Lucasfilm properties. So far, only Favreau's involvement in one of the Star Wars TV series has been revealed.
Favreau is no stranger to the "Star Wars" universe. The actor-director played roles in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Warsand in Solo: A Star Wars Story.
Paltrow claims Weinstein was 'scared' of Pitt
Actress Gwyneth Paltrow claims Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was "scared" of actor Brad Pitt and wanted to "keep the actor on side" after making her feel uncomfortable.
Paltrow has said she doesn't know what would have happened if her former boyfriend Pitt hadn't protected her against the predatory producer, reports suggest so.
The Oscar-winning actress told Marie Claire UK that she believes Weinstein was "scared" of Pitt, who "leveraged his power" against the now-disgraced movie mogul.
Paltrow says Pitt had threatened Weinstein in 1995 when he found out that the producer had tried to lure her to a hotel room and asked her to massage him.
"I am so grateful to Pitt," she said.
"Because he leveraged his power and fame to protect me - when I was no one - and he scared Harvey. And if it hadn't been for him, I don't know if I'd have gotten fired, or what. But instead, Weinstein was like, 'Okay, let's put it behind us. I think he wanted to keep Brad on side."
In May, Paltrow recalled how Pitt had confronted Weinstein about making alleged unwanted sexual advances towards the actress when she first signed on to star in Emma and Shakespeare in Love.
Pitt pulled Weinstein aside at the opening night of Hamlet on Broadway shortly after Paltrow had shared the encounter.
"He told me exactly what he said (to Harvey). He said, 'If you ever make her feel uncomfortable again, I'll kill you'."
The 45-year-old actress worked with Weinstein extensively during the 1990s and 2000s, with films including Shakespeare In Love, Bounce and Emma.
Kate Hudson names her third child Rani
Actress Kate Hudson has welcomed her third child, a daughter whom she has named Rani Rose Hudson Fujikawa.
The 39-year-old Almost Famous actress shared the news on Wednesday that her little girl was born the day before. Hudson and her boyfriend Danny Fujikawa, 32, decided the name Rani for the newborn mutually, reports suggest so.
"We have decided to name our daughter Rani (pronounced Ronnie) after her grandfather, Ron Fujikawa. Ron was the most special man who we all miss dearly. To name her after him is an honour," Hudson wrote on Instagram.
Hudson's three children have three different fathers. She shares 14-year-old son Ryder with ex-husband Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson, and Bingham, seven, with former fiance and Muse frontman Matt Bellamy.
Denise definitely grounded me more: Charlie Sheen
Actor Charlie Sheen says his former wife Denise Richards has definitely grounded him more.
"She's definitely grounded me more, although when I met her, I was pretty straight and pretty narrow. But it... she certainly helps solidify a much greater desire for responsibility and for, you know, giving that part of me," Sheen said in a statement to a leading publication.
Asked if it is nice to read articles that aren't about the 'bad boy Charlie Sheen', he said, "Yeah. I just saw a mention of that last night. My wife did the cover of one of these fitness magazines, you know, and it says something -- something Denise Richards settled down with reformed bad boy Charlie Sheen, and I just thought 'When can I just be Charlie Sheen again?'"
"It just seems like there's a lot of guys out there carrying the torch right now that are doing a pretty good job," said the Two and a Half Men star.
Who's filling in his shoes best now?
"Colin Farrell. He's doing a great job. I tip my hat to him because it's a tough one. It's a full-time job when there's no benefit. But there's really no controversy or there's nothing as print-worthy... in the way my life is today with, you know -- through that filter with that perception, so I can't get too upset about things I have no control over.
"All I can do is just move forward and then hope, eventually, enough time goes by and enough examples are set that it sort of undoes itself."
Two and a Half Men will air on Comedy Central in India starting from 28 October.
