Veena Malik and husband sentenced to 26- year imprisonment in Pakistan

Veena Malik
Controversial Pakistani actress Veena Malik has landed on the wrong side of the law in her own country. Veena along with hubby Asad Bashir Khan and anchor Mir-Shakil-Ur-Rahman have been sentenced to 26 years in prison by an anti-terrorism court for allegedly airing a blasphemous programme. The said morning show that was broadcast live on Rahman's Geo TV showed Veena dancing with husband Asad while a group of Sufi musicians sang a devotional song about the wedding of the Prophet Muhammad's daughter. The judgment was passed by an Anti-Terrorism Court(ATC) who apart from sentencing all three to 26 years of imprisonment also imposed a fine of 1.3 million Pakistani rupees on the convicts and ordered that their properties should be sold to raise the fine, if they failed to pay it. What however should offer solace to Veena & Co is the fact that the verdict may not be carried out as the ATC is in a region that is not considered a full-fledged province by Pakistan. Also, all accused in the case are believed to be out of Pakistan at the moment. Meanwhile, both Wahidi and the Geo group have reportedly tendered apology after the allegations were leveled.
