Vikrant Massey prefers not to be called a 'Box office star' despite 12th Fail's big success; Says ‘I still have a long way to go for that’

MUMBAI: Vikrant Massey has become a household name in the Bollywood industry after making his screen debut in Lootera in 2013 alongside Ranveer Singh and Sonakshi Sinha. The film released in 2023 proved to be his career's breakout film 12th Fail garnering favorable reviews from both reviewers and audiences. Even though Vikrant recently acknowledged 12th Fail's success, the actor doesn't see himself as a "box-office star."

In a recent interview with the popular news portal, Vikrant Massey revealed that looking back, he believes it was a particularly significant turning point in his career. Vikrant thanked the crowd for showing him so much love and respect on the 12th Fail success.

"Jab shuru kiya tha film ke liye tayyari karna tab ek valid scepticism tha ki cinema mein aani hai film. Bahot saare actual log the actors nahin the. (When I started preparing for the film, there was a valid skepticism that it was coming into cinema. There are a lot of actual people, not the actors.) I still am not a box office star. I still have a long way to go for that," he said.

The Blackout actor shared that he will continue to feel that he is not a "box office star" even after 12th Fail's big success, until he delivers 5-7 films consistently in the future.

Calling it the "bare minimum", Vikrant stated that he hopes it will happen after 5 years when he could sit back and have several movies lined up in his kitty. The 12th Fail actor added that bankability doesn't come with a single film, but with being consistent on the big screen.

Vikrant explained that you cannot play one innings and claim to have accomplished everything using cricket as an example. "Aap ek inning mein khel ke nahin bol sakte ho ki ho gaya," he expressed.

12th Fail is directed, written, and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra based on author Anurag Pathak's 2019 novel of the same name. It looks at the life of Manoj Kumar Sharma, an IPS officer who achieved this despite living in terrible poverty. The movie streams on Disney+ Hotstar. It was released on October 27 of last year.

Regarding his professional career, Vikrant Massey has contributed to several films, including Haseen Dillruba, Chhapaak, A Death in the Gunj, and Dil Dhadakne Do. He will next be seen in the 2018 movie's sequel, Phir Aayi Haseen Dillruba.
