MUMBAI : Vivek Oberoi's battle with Salman Khan is one of the most divisive moments in Bollywood history. The drama began following Salman Khan's breakup with Aishwarya Rai, who allegedly began dating Vivek. Salman was upset by Vivek and Aishwarya's relationship speculations, and he allegedly called Vivek and threatened him.

Things took an unpleasant turn when Vivek convened a news conference and spoke out about Salman Khan's threats. Vivek also said that Salman phoned him 41 times and accused him of having sexual ties with numerous prominent Bollywood ladies. He also claimed the star had threatened to murder him. Vivek soon realized the ramifications of going against Salman.

Following the contentious press conference, Vivek received no support from his colleagues or industry peers. The actor also ceased working in the industry, and Bollywood boycotted him. It was one of the most painful times in Vivek's life, and he constantly reflects on and repents. From frequent rejections to humiliation, the actor experienced a range of emotions.

During an award function, after his performance on Beedi jalaile, Vivek bowed down with folded hands in front of Salman as an apology to the actor.

While Vivek bowed down, Salman could be seen looking away and smirking. The Chairman of the committee who was sitting next to Salman Khan said, “Vivek grabbed his (own) ears and bowed and mouthed ‘bhai’. But Salman just shook his head.”

It was an uncomfortable and difficult time for Vivek Oberoi and his followers because the actor's father, the iconic actor Suresh Oberoi, was also there at the occasion and apologized to Salman. Vivek's public apologies were later used as a joke at an award event. During the Zee Cine Awards, producers Sajid Khan and Karan Johar mocked Vivek Oberoi by imitating the actions he demonstrated to Salman.

Salman and Aishwarya parted ways on an ugly note in 2002. She said, “Salman and I broke up last March, but he isn't able to come to terms with it. After we broke up, he would call me and talk rubbish. He also suspected me of having affairs with my co-stars. I was linked up with everyone, from Abhishek Bachchan to Shah Rukh Khan. There were times when Salman got physical with me, luckily without leaving any marks. And I would go to work as if nothing had happened.”
