
MUMBAI: Wes Anderson’s highly anticipated espionage comedy-drama, The Phoenician Scheme , is now set to release in Indian cinemas on June 20, 2025 . Universal Pictures India (distributed by Warner Bros. Discovery) announced that originally scheduled for June 6, the film's release has been postponed by two weeks.
Written and directed by Academy and BAFTA award winner Wes Anderson and produced by Steven Rales, Jeremy Dawson and John Peet , Co-written by Roman Coppola. The Phoenician Scheme is a gripping espionage drama that explores the fractured bond between a father and daughter. The film features an all-star cast including Benicio Del Toro, Scarlett Johansson Bill Murray, Tom Hanks, Riz Ahmed, Mia Threapleton, Michael Cera, Benedict Cumberbatch, and Bryan Cranston —each delivering powerful performances in a story layered with tension, intrigue, and emotional depth.
The Phoenician Scheme follows enigmatic industrialist Anatole “Zsa-zsa” Korda (Benicio del Toro), one of Europe’s wealthiest and most targeted men, as he survives yet another assassination attempt amid the final stages of his massive and perilous infrastructure project. Hunted by enemies across political and corporate spheres, Korda unexpectedly names his estranged daughter Liesl—a 20-year-old nun—as his successor, drawing her into a tense, shadowy world of espionage, legacy, and fractured family ties.
Benicio del Toro playing the role of Anatole ‘Zsa-Zsa’ Korda, reflects on how he joined the project, Benicio del Toro recalls, “This whole thing started with a phone call.” Wes said, “I'm working on this project and I'm thinking of you for the lead. But there's going to be a lot of talking.” And I said, “Uh, okay. How do you feel about that?” And I said, “Well, as long as we practice, we should be fine, right?”
