What! Abhishek Bachchan reminisce his dark days of struggle: “I was told ‘aapko acting nahi aati’”

MUMBAI : Bollywood actor Abishek had to endure a lot to get out of his superstar father Amictabh Bachchan’s shadow. He began his career with Refugee opposite Kareena Kapoor but the film flopped badly and the critics wrote him off. He then went on to do a couple of other films but people kept comparing him to his dad and that’s when his ship began to sink.

The actor today, recalls those dark days and during an earlier chat show with Farhan Akhtar had said, “When Mani Ratnam offered me Yuva, my films were not working at the box-office. As an actor I was literally finished, I had no work. I was getting thrown out of films. After two days of shooting, I was told that the film was stalled and then I would get to know that they were shooting with someone else. We start losing confidence because on a weekly basis I was told ‘aapko acting nahi aati’”

The distressed actor then went to his dad and confided in him with a heavy heart saying, “One night I was thinking about what went wrong, ‘maine kya galat kiya hai’. I went to dad and told him, ‘Maine galti kardiya, mujhe actor nai banna chaiye tha.”

A few days later he got a call from filmmaker Mani Ratnam who offered him the iconic role in Yuva. The film changed his career graph and was a huge turning point in his life and profession. He then added, “By the grace of god, for the first time I got a good review.”
