MUMBAI: The recently unveiled teaser for Marvel Studios' The Fantastic Four: First Steps has ignited a frenzy of excitement, particularly with its first glimpse of Franklin Richards. This reveal has sent anticipation soaring, evidenced by the immediate surge in demand for tickets in the US. Websites like FANDANGO, Regal, and AMC Theatres reportedly crashed under the surge in demand; with Indian fans also joining the chorus of enthusiasm, eagerly awaiting their turn to witness the Fantastic Four on the big screen.
Director Matt Shakman recently shed light on the film's creative process and its deep roots in the comics. "Having absorbed six decades of F4 publishing, many of Hickman’s magical moments and unique character dynamics stick with me. And they made it into our film in small and large ways. The Future Foundation. The Bridge. The mystery of children and the anxiety we have as parents about their future," Shakman revealed. He added, "In preparation for Marvel Studios’ “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” I delved into the 60-plus years of comics history. The humor and heart I loved as a kid? It’s there and better than ever. The messy family dynamics? Made even more interesting as Val and Franklin take center stage."
The teaser's most significant moment undoubtedly features Reed Richards / Mister Fantastic and Sue Storm / Invisible Woman lying in bed with baby Franklin Richards. This marks a titular first look at the character, and its significance is amplified by a recent tease from Vanessa Kirby, who portrays Sue Storm, "It’s not just adults that have superpowers." Given that Kirby’s Sue Storm is pregnant in film, and the trailer confirms Franklin's presence as a baby, this comment holds immense weight for anyone familiar with the Fantastic Four comics. Marvel Studios is poised to introduce arguably the most powerful mutant in existence.
Franklin Richards is, without a doubt, one of the most formidable beings in the entire Marvel Universe. Essentially, Franklin's power on Earth is so vast that it rivals even cosmic entities like the Celestials and Galactus. With the recent reveal, it is likely that audiences will witness Franklin demonstrate his unique powers to some degree in the film, setting the stage for a character whose potential knows no bounds.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps introduces Reed Richards/Mister Fantastic (Pedro Pascal), Sue Storm/Invisible Woman (Vanessa Kirby), Johnny Storm/Human Torch Joseph Quinn) and Ben Grimm/The Thing (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) as they face their most daunting challenge yet. Forced to balance their roles as heroes with the strength of their family bond, they must defend Earth from a ravenous space god called Galactus (Ralph Ineson) and his enigmatic Herald, Silver Surfer (Julia Garner). Directed by Matt Shakman, the film is produced by Kevin Feige and executive produced by Louis D’Esposito, Grant Curtis and Tim Lewis.
The Fantastic Four: First Steps Featuring Marvel's First Family in action is all set to release on July 25, 2025 in India in English, Hindi, Tamil & Telugu
