Film themes spun around the common man of India have often found great resonance amongst average India movie goers. Be it Jaane Bhi Do Yaaro, A Wednesday or Aankhon Dekhi, this genre have always ended up touching a raw nerve with audience in the country. Ekkees Toppon Ki Salaami professes to do just that.
Starring Anupam Kher in the lead role of a common man, the trailer released yesterday looked immensely promising. Harping on the age old theme of father-son relation, the movie revolves around the sons’ quest (Divyendu Sharma, Manu Rishi) in getting their father (Anupam Kher) a 21 gun salute.
What's commendable is that the movie doesn't try to be philosophically preachy. The corrupt and their overwhelming corruption are lamented through subtle satires that will evoke oodles of laughter. The trailer meticulously captures the angst of Anupam Kher and his sons dilemma in getting their upright, honest father a 21 gun salute for his unrecognised deed. The icing on the cake is provided by the rotten corrupt politician (played brilliantly by Rajesh Kumar) who derives sadomasochistic pleasure in troubling the innocent. The way he pronounces ‘land’ to bring out the Hindi sexual innuendo hidden in it surely makes it worth a watch. Even though politicians have been showcased in their crudest manner possible, nothing seems cringe worthy in the movie.
Last but not the least, Neha Dhupia will provide all the jhatkas and matkas making sure all the movie is replete with all masala entertainment that one looks out for.
The movie will open in theaters across India on 10 October and is produced by Nautanki Films.
