Swastika Mukherjee
Bengali bombshell Swastika Mukherjee who will be making her Bollywood debut with Dibakar Banerjee’s Byomkesh Bakshi has been accused of shoplifting in Singapore where she is currently attending the Bengali Film Festival as a delegate, reports Bollywoodjournalist.com. The actress is reported to have stolen a gold earring by stealthily putting it in her handbag. Unfortunately for her, the act was caught on CCTV. The incident took place last Saturday and the estimated price of the stolen jewellery is being pegged at $250. The jewellery store owner was quoted confirming the incident. In his statement, Apsara Oswal, owner of the store reportedly said, “Our CCTV cameras has caught her(Swastika Mukherjee) lifting the piece of jewellery and then putting it in her handbag. She hasn’t paid for it. We have already appealed to her to pay for the item as it costs $250. We are waiting for a response from her side. We don’t want to make a hue and cry about about it. We just want her to return our jewellery back to us if she doesn’t wish to buy it." Arindom Sil, one of the main organisers of the event also confirmed the receipt of the complaint against Swastik sent by the jewellery store owners. Swastika on her part claims to have purchased the jewellery but she hasn't been able to produce the receipt of the 'purchase' yet. The actress was quoted saying, “I don’t know how it got into my bag. Perhaps it was by accident. But I have bought jewellery from the store and I have got receipts for it." It is believed that the actress has been asked to return the jewellery and fly back to India. Her shoplifting act has also reportedly caused the fellow delegates at the film festival much embarrassment.
