I am yet to feel the 'pain' of being married - Namit 'Sumit' Das

Star Plus’ upcoming sitcom Sumit Sambhal Lega will see Bollywood actor Namit Das making his debut on TV as the male protagonist.

The DJs A Creative Unit show is the official Indian adaptation of the popular English series Everybody Loves Raymond and the first season hits off from 31 August. Along with Namit, the series will have Manasi Parekh, Bharti Achrekar and Satish Kaushik as part of the stellar cast.

As we chatted with the young actor, Namit shared his reasons of making a foray into TV. “Firstly when I heard about the show being an adaptation of the hugely popular series ELR, I was interested. I think bringing it to India and making it at such a grand scale is a huge challenge and a great feat. I really feel it is one of the most adaptable series in the Indian scenario. Also with such a wonderful creative team, I seriously had all the reasons to give my nod.”

The actor being an unconventional hero, we asked if he is confident about his acceptance on TV. “I am very sure of myself and our show. When my producers and channel have shown confidence in me by casting me as the lead, why would I have any apprehensions? Initially yes, I have been denied good roles but I think it is time for all unconventional good looking actors to stand up and win the world,” smiled Namit.

Talking about the rise in TV phase, the actor quipped, “I think it is very exciting times as TV is on a transit phase. I think now people look at TV very differently and I feel lucky to be a part of the transition period. Also now with our show, we are bringing a change that TV is just not only for women, but it is time that men too watch a show and enjoy to the fullest.”

Recalling his journey from Wake Up Sid to Sumit..., Namit said, “I think it has been a long and satisfying one. I really feel lucky that I got to work with interesting and talented people in this time span. I think God has been kind to have me enjoy this level of success at such a young age.”

And finally, since the actor recently got married, we asked him has he ever felt the ‘dard’ that Sumit experiences in the show. “I hardly get time with my wife to actually feel the pain. I think it is time I spend more time with her to experience the ‘of being married,” laughed the cute guy.

Wish you luck Namit!
