Shruti Haasan to produce 'The Mosquito Philosophy'

Actress-producer Shruti Haasan will produce director Jayprakash Radhakrishnan's next The Mosquito Philosophy under her banner Isidro Media.

The actress will be presenting the project as well.

"Our belief at Isidro is to present extremely interesting, edgy and different kinds of content. It can be content across various formats just as long as they further the creative process and make it possible for people to experience world class storytelling," Shruti said in a statement to IANS.

"When we saw The Mosquito Philosophy and after having seen JP's last works especially his much acclaimed film Lens, we knew we had found the right person to associate with. He has a very edgy vision to creatively showcase even the simplest stories.

"It's fantastic to work with someone who is courageous in offering new content that challenges conventional thinking. We are really excited to present this film under the Isidro banner and hope this is the start of a long term working relationship," she added.

JP, as the director is fondly called, will be seen showcasing the idea of minimalism with The Mosquito Philosophy.

Despite being in Tamil, the film's story has universal appeal and is shot with basic storyline with no scripted dialogues and bare minimum equipment and crew to ensure that the most real showcase of life is replicated on screen.

Talking about his film, the director said, "Filmmakers the world over have struggled hard to make films that are as close to reality as possible to ensure the art they create connects seamlessly with the audience. The Mosquito Philosophy, born out of the quest to showcase a real life and real time narrative, is an interrogation of a society caught between the throws of tradition and modernity seen through the story of four friends.”

"The film is shot with a basic idea of conversation without scripted dialogues in the most minimalistic way. Through the process of making this film I realised the power of spontaneity; it makes even the smallest moments alive and truthful," he added.

The director is happy that Shruti is backing his project.

"I'm so happy to have partnered with a team that believes in my talent and my vision and has contributed to being a part of the change in the cinematic language of India and the world. Together, we look forward to taking The Mosquito Philosophy across the globe and share our journey with audiences the world over," he said.

Bappi feels the younger generation of musicians needs to appreciate both global music and the traditional Indian style.

"I may be known better for my Western songs like 'Jimmy Jimmy' and 'Disco Dancer'. But side by side, I could compose raga-based melodies like 'Saiyyan bina ghar soona' (Lata Mangeshkar's song in 'Aangan Ki Kali') and 'Dard ki ragini' (from 'Pyaas')."

Bappi is happy to be singing and composing for 50 years.

"I started in 1968. To this day, my songs are being played and remixed. Last year, Karan Johar used my 'Tamma tamma' song in Badrinath Ki Dulhania. The key to lasting so long is to constantly reinvent yourself as an artiste. My 'Jimmy Jimmy' song from the film Disco Dancer has now been honoured by the World Book Of Records.”

"In the citation, I am described as the originator of the disco beats in India. 'Jimmy Jimmy' has been translated into 45 languages across the world, including Chinese, Russian and Spanish."

Nagarjuna set to enter 'Munnabhai...' territory

After Ram Gopal Varma's Officer that opens next week, actor Nagarjuna is already on to his next project a big light-hearted comedy with which the veteran star says he enters the Munnabhai-territory.

"This new film that I am doing with Nani is very much in the Raj Kumar Hirani territory. I play a gangster and Nani plays my doctor. It is a very warm-hearted funny script. And I've a feeling director Sriram Adittya will make something special out of it," says Nag, who has no problem doing two-hero films with younger actors.

"I've never in my career felt threatened by the presence of any other actor. Earlier I was mostly doing solo-hero films in Telugu because that was what was offered to me.”

"Recently these two-hero projects have come which I enjoy doing. I enjoyed working with Karthi in Oopiri. I am sure working with Nani will be a lot of fun," says Nag who looks forward to working with his sons Nag Chaitanya and Akhil.

There has been an announcement that Nagarjuna would be working with Priyadarshan in a biopic Makkar the Lion Of The Arabian Sea, based on the exploits of the 16th century naval explorer Kunjali Marakkar-IV.

However, Nag dismisses these reports as premature. "I was approached but I need to hear the script before I say 'yes'. I will be hearing it June end. At the moment I am only doing the film with Nani."
