MUMBAI: Here we are back with another big breaking from the desk of TellyChakkar!
Yesterday, we reported about television’s most popular actress Drashti Dhami making her digital debut with Nikkhil Advani’s upcoming lavish historical fiction series The Empire. It is a screen adaptation of Alex Rutherford’s six-volume historical fiction novel, Empire of the Moghul, which starts with Babur and ends with the reign of Aurangzeb.

There have been reports about Ronit Roy reprising the role Babur, Shabana Azmi will essay the role of his grandmother, Esan Daulat, and Dia Mirza will feature as his sister, Khanzada. The actors shot the pilot last year and the shoot was scheduled to begin in February 2020 however, due to lockdown it got postponed.
However, TellyChakkar has learned that there is alteration in the star cast. The role of Babur will not be played by Ronit Roy but by Bollywood actor Kunal Kapoor who is still re-called for his stint in Rang De Basanti. Dia Mirza is out and now Drashti Dhami is locked to portray Khanzada’s role.
The Empire will be launched on OTT platform Hotstar.
