Slow and steady seems to be Bengali actor Parambrata Chatterjee’s magic mantra to stardom. The sensitive actor who made a huge impact in Sujoy Ghosh’s Kahaani has been proceeding with his career slowly and with extreme caution. While picking through the Bollywood offers Parambarta even directed a Bengali film Hawa Badol on male bonding. Now seven months after Kahaani Parambrata is all set to finally sign his second Hindi film, a remake of the 2011 Malayalam blockbuster Traffic directed by Rajesh Pillai. The Hindi remake to be produced by Endemol, would again be directed by Rajesh Pillai. Ajay Devgan, we hear, plays a celluloid superstar. Parambrata has been roped in to play the cardiac surgeon Dr Abel. Sources close to the Bengali actor confirm, “Parambrata will be flying into Mumbai later this week to finalize the deal. Traffic would be his second Hindi film. In addition he is also in advanced talks with UTV for a Nikhil Advani film where Parambrata would co-star with Abhishek Bachchan.” But at the moment Parambrata is heading for Hollywood with a hard-hitting film on the theme of child trafficking. The film entitled Sold would feature a 13-year old Nepali girl playing the victim of the flesh trade. The film to be directed by Oscar-winner Jeffrey D Brown is expected to star Naomi Watts in one of the main roles. Brown was in Kolkata last week to officially sign Parambrata. The film is set in Nepal and Kolkata. According to a source close to Parmabrata, “He plays the protagonist in the Kolkata section of the film. The main role in Sold is that of the 13-year old Nepali girl. They are looking for a young Manisha Koirala. The film starts shooting in November.” When contacted, Parambrata refrained from commenting on these projects. “I am not supposed to talk about my projects until they’re officially announced by their producers. But yes, I was in no hurry to sign another Hindi film after Kahaani. I was out of the country quite a lot since the release of Kahaani.” Parmbrata says half his life, his girlfriend, lives abroad. “I was busy with three Bengali projects and then I directed my own Bengali film about two college friends played by Rudranil Ghosh and I, who meet after many years. Actually I consider myself a film student. Acting and direction fall in the same range of vision for me.” Parambrata also has another project with his Kahaani director Sujoy Ghosh. “But that’s quite a long way off. I’ve other acting projects lined up before Sujoy’s film. Like I said I took my time to sign my second Hindi film. I didn’t want to end up being a one-movie wonder in Bollywood.”
