Barun with The Missing Stone you have once again given fans a thrilling experience. Has it become your favourite genre?

This is going to be very difficult to answer after next year as all I have is thriller. The whole year I am shooting is only thriller. Liking to the genre was always there I think. I loved watching thrillers and documentaries. Although me doing such a series back to back is by chance. Thrillers are very difficult to write. So when you get a well-written one, you just don't want to let that go.

What would be the reason one should watch this series?

It's a very well-told story. I think the director has done a very good job. It's not a kind of the show you will watch in three or four days. The best part is it's an easy binge as its a 100 minute program. While shooting, the director wanted to shoot it in a certain grade and it has come out wonderful. The storytelling is nice and people will like it.

How do you choose your projects?

The only criteria I have is that the script should be good. I never ask what the cast is? I will never ask what the location is or anything. I will just speak to the director and if he sounds reasonable to me and I will read the script in one go, I say yes to it.

We heard that you all had to go under quarantine at the shooting location...
One of the reasons I said yes to this series was because of the plans the producers had. Everybody was very skeptical during the lockdown and nobody was kind of ready to risk their families. So, the brief I was given was that we will travel to this resort in Kolhapur and the whole crew will be quarantined in their respective rooms for five days and then we will start shooting. And we will shoot the entire series in one location. So, I found the plan lovely and so was the location.

Post lockdown what changes have you experienced while shooting. Is it normal?

Apprehensions are still there as people really don't know how to conduct themselves. Obviously, little social thread has also gone off. But as humans we will survive and find the way.

You have a family at home, especially your daughter Shifat who is extremely young. So does that concern you?

I take all the precautions that I can. Aur rahi baat ghabrane ki so mere life ka funda hai- jo bhi kaam karne jaa rahe ho, usse pehle usko figure out karlo agar usse acche se karna hai toh. So, once I say yes to something, I will not be skeptical anything about it. Then it will only be about the work.

You finally made your social media debut on Instagram. Who convinced you for that?

No one convinced me. I had to do it but just that I was looking for the right time. What prompted me is that one day there was a conversation that you should move with the time and the people who don't change with the time is not a great idea. And I think no wants to be left behind and not be with something that is happening currently and it's working. Mujhe chize thodi late samajh aati hai basically.

A lot of celebrities and casting directors feel that it's a must to have a certain number of followers on Instagram to get cast. Does Barun agree to this?

Mujhe aise casting directors ke saath kaam hi nahi karna jo Instagram dekhkar cast karte hain.

Actors also have the pressure to keep their fans updated on social media. How are you planning to take that?

You have to give the people what you have promised. But when I came to Instagram I haven't promised that if I will be posting once a year or on a regular basis. I am constantly updating though and I have a team who is helping me in this. And if its about interacting with my fans then it will happen organically.

Barun Sobti created huge waves with his hit web series Asur and made a strong performance.
