MUMBAI: Popular actress Shivangi Joshi made her TV debut with Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi and went on to feature in shows like Beintehaa and Begusarai. But she shot to fame after portraying the role of Naira
in Star Plus show Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai. The actress is now seen as Sirat, a boxer. Shivangi has been a part of the show for close to five years.
She says, “It’s common that after a point it can get monotonous but it all depends on how the actor perceives things. Luckily, there hasn’t been a single day when I felt doing the same character repetitive or tiring. Every day, I am learning something new and this has helped me to hone my craft.”
On the Hindi film industry, the actress says that regardless of whether it is TV or Bollywood, the storyline should be interesting. She would love to be in Bollywood but right now, she is happy with her show.

"I was in Dehradun during the lockdown and would end up baking a variety of cakes for my family and tried my hands at some delicious recipes taught by my mom. I come from a joint family and after many years, I got a chance to spend quality time with all of them. I always wanted to learn piano but getting it in Dehradun during the lockdown seemed difficult. So, I learned it through an app on my phone and now I can play the piano. The forced break taught me to spend quality time with my family and myself. Now that I’m working, I often feel homesick. Video calls with my family are now part of my daily routine,” she added.
For many actors, social media was handy during the lockdown. But she feels that an actor must use social media to encourage and inspire people. “I feel social media is a great tool as you can connect with your fans and must be used positively to inspire people around. However, spending too much time on social media and being constantly available can be draining emotionally. So, we must know where to draw the line.”
On mental health, Shivangi says, “The lockdown made us aware that our mental health needs care as it’s pivotal in every stage and phase of life. With so much happening around us, we must pay attention to how we feel mentally and emotionally and take necessary help in case of need.”
