MUMBAI: Bollywood diva Sushmita Sen made her stunning entry into the films after becoming the first Indian to bag the Miss Universe title in 1994. She starred in several hit films but later took a brief hiatus from films for almost a decade.
Talking about her break from films, Sushmita recently revealed to a film critic that mainstream Bollywood wasn’t offering the projects that she wanted. Looking at her 10-year hiatus as a blessing in disguise, she said that it helped to set the priorities in order and figure out what she need to do.

While she said that mainstream cinema wasn’t offering her films that she wanted a lot because of a ‘pre-conceived notion’ about her age and her absence from work, she also feels not being able to network with people made her miss opportunities as well. “I don't know what the mindset was or maybe I was not putting myself out there. I have never been good at that. I am no good at networking. It did not work for me,” she said.
Sushmita has come a long way in Bollywood ever since she debuted with Vikram Bhatt’s ‘Dastak’. She was last seen in ‘Dulha Mil Gaya’ before she took a pause for ten years only to come back stronger with her first web series ‘Aarya’ in 2020.
In between her film career, Sushmita also raised her two daughters, Renee and Alisah. Previously, she was in the news after announcing her breakup with her long-term boyfriend Rohman Shawl.
