Exclusive! Doing an ongoing show was really not on my mind, but the character of Zoravar intrigued me: Gaurav S Bajaj on bagging

MUMBAI: Colors’ Choti Sarrdaarni is among the most popular shows on TV. The leads of the daily soap, Nimrit Kaur Ahluwalia and Mahir Pandhi, recently quit it, which has led to a chapter in the show.

The show now stars Gaurav S Bajaj and Amandeep Sidhu in the lead roles. It is produced by Rajesh Ram Singh, Pradeep Kumar, Piya Bajpayee, and Shaika Parween under the banner of Cockcrow and Shaika Entertainment.

TellyChakkar got in touch with Gaurav, who spoke about his character, making a comeback with Choti Sarrdaarni, and more.

How is it making a comeback with Choti Sarrdaarni?

“It was absolutely destined. I studied in a Sikh school, and most of my closest friends are Sardars. I've been very close to the community, and when I started preparing for the role, I felt like I'm contributing a bit to the community. Taking the role further was challenging, and I'll keep it that way as we move forward. I was very aggressive about getting good work, and doing an ongoing show was really not on my mind. But the character intrigued me. My aim was to do something different. My main audiences see me every day through social media, but I had to do a role that wasn't like me. Hence, Choti Sarrdaarni happened.”

Could you tell us more about the storyline and your character?

“The old story will be fading out, and a new journey will begin in Choti Sarrdaarni. We are a part of the story to make sure it is interesting and liked by the audiences. Talking about the character Zoravar, I don't relate to him at all! I've been working on my character though. My learning was to unlearn a lot of things and invest efforts to make the audience believe that Zoravar is a great character.”

Do you know how to wear a turban by yourself?

“No. The production is very particular about the entire look and feel. And I don't want to hurt anyone's sentiments, especially those of Sardaars. So, being a new member in the family, it's my responsibility towards the team and the community.”

How has it been shooting with your co-star Amandeep?

“It's been great. Her character is very nice. She's very chilled out, outspoken, and loud. She also has better experience as an actress.”

Do your feel any pressure with regard to your performance because the show is already established?

“I don't have to live up to the show's benchmark. I have to set my own benchmark and cross it. I designed Zoravar in my own way, and I'll perform it according to the back story that I have created for the character. I have full respect for the actors who have taken this show to the level it is at right now.”

Good luck, Gaurav!
