MUMBAI: Former BJP MP and the current head coach of the Indian men’s cricket team, Gautam Gambhir, has received security threats in form of emails.
As per reports, he received threats on 22nd April, the same day there was a terrorist attack in Kashmir’s Pahalgam where reportedly 26 people were killed by terrorists. Most of the people who lost their lives were tourists. The email Gautam Gambhir received was from a suspicious Gmail account.
In a statement by DCP (Central) M Harsha Vardhan he said, “We have been informed about an alleged threat mail received on an email ID associated with Gautam Gambhir. The matter is being investigated,”
“Gautam Gambhir is already a Delhi Police protectee and we do not comment on specific security arrangements,” the officer added.
As per police sources, Gambhir received two mails with threats that read “I KILL YOU”. The mails were from a sender identifying as “ISIS Kashmir”.
An email complaint, accompanied by screenshots of threatening messages, was submitted to the Rajinder Nagar police station for investigation.
“Dear Sir, Namaskar. As we spoke, please find below the ‘Threat Mails’ received on the mail ID of Mr Gautam Gambhir (Ex-MP), Head Coach Indian Cricket Team. Kindly register the FIR accordingly and ensure the safety and security of the family,” the complaint read.
However, this is not the first time Gambhir has received threats as he has also received similar threats back in 2022.
