The Chief Minister of Gujarat Narendra Damodardas Modi while speaking on the women of the small scale industry in a recent speech referred to Krishnaben Khakhrawala, an erstwhile serial of Sony TV. He has thoroughly enjoyed and appreciated the concept of a widowed lady working hard to set up her business to support her kids as shown in the serial. Indeed many women have been inspired to set up similar businesses. Indira Krishnan who played the role of Krishnaben Khakrawala on the show said, “I have always taken up shows with social causes. It is a great honour to me that Modi referred to our serial.” Producer Asit Modi is also humbled by this. He told us, “Maybe Krishnaben Khakhrawala didn’t continue for long but it has left a long lasting impact. Generally once a show is taken off air it is out of mind. Though it came to an end one and a half years ago, it is still fondly remembered.” We hope that creatives come up with more shows on women empowerment and other relevant social issues.
