MUMBAI:Sandhya Mridul started her acting journey with TV shows and was later seen in Bollywood movies. She is now doing some amazing work on OTT and will next be seen in the web series titled Taj: Divided by Blood in which she plays the role of Jodha Bai.

TellyChakkar recently interacted with Sandhya and spoke to her about the web series, playing the role of a mother to a grown-up man and more.

Taj will premiere in just a couple of days. How excited or nervous are you about it?

I am excited 8/10, nervous 4/10 (laughs). That’s what I can tell you at this point.

Earlier, actresses like Durga Khote (Mughal-E-Azam) and Aishwarya Rai Bachchan (Jodhaa Akbar) had played the role of Jodha Bai. So, was there a pressure while performing the character that these actresses have left a mark and now, I am doing that role?

There was no pressure, but now I am getting the pressure during the interviews. Also, I am a person who doesn’t take pressure of what anybody else has played and how they have played something because it doesn’t come naturally to me to compare myself with anyone. This is one of the best qualities that I have, I compete very healthily but I don’t compare. My authenticity depends on me, how I have played the character and what I have done to it, only I can bring to it and same for the people before me. It’s not really something that I think about too much. Even if people compare, I can't do anything about it because I will do what I was told to do according to the script.

You play a mother to a grown-up man (Aashim Gulati) in the web series. So, were you not hesitant before taking up the role?

Not at all, I didn’t even consider it. Honestly speaking I am an actor and I never had the fear about the age I am playing, in fact this has gone against me because I had agreed to be a mother once before this. But, it doesn’t affect me, if I like the role, script and the set up, I will play any age. I am not stuck on this age thing and I can’t play a mother thing. In fact, in the meeting, they (makers) asked me about it, and I said I don’t have a problem with it. Of course I did Google and see who Aashim Gulati is because I wanted to know who is playing my son.

Taj: Divided by Blood will start streaming on Zee5 on 3rd March 2023.
