MUMBAI : Mukesh Chhabra dropped hints about the possible sequel to his directorial debut, "Dil Bechara," on X in January of this year. He just wrote "Dil Bechara 2" with little context, and this post caused controversy on the internet. While some Sushant Singh Rajput fans expressed their excitement and were moved by the news, many others were not so sure.

Now, in a conversation with the popular news portal, in addition to addressing any persistent doubts about the sequel, Mukesh declares he would never make that movie. “Yes, I tweeted about it because I was genuinely planning on making Dil Bechara 2. Dil Bechara is a very special film for me because of so many emotions attached to it and, of course, Sushant. So, I realised that I shouldn’t touch that film,” he said.

Talking about how he doesn’t want to milk the film that starred Sushant and Sanjana Sanghi, he asserts, “I was making a film which I wanted to name ‘Dil Bechara 2’ but that title will always belong to Sushant. I don’t want to use that name. I don’t want to cash on that film ever now. I want to keep its beauty intact.”

For many reasons, Sushant's final movie from 2020, which came out a month after his sudden passing, will always hold special meaning for Mukesh. It was the first time the actor-director team had worked together, and they had jammed numerous other scripts together on the set of this movie.

“While we were making Dil Bechara, there were conversations with Sushant on collaborating again soon. I’m someone who likes working with the same people I’ve worked in the past with as is the case with Ayan (Mukerji) and Ranbir (Kapoor),” he shares.

It has always been the dream of the casting director of Amar Singh Chamkila and 12th Fail to work closely and productively with Sushant. “I also wanted to work with Sushant on three-four other films. It was my dream. When it comes to even casting, Imtiaz (Ali) and I’ve worked on so many films. Sometimes, we like repeating our own people because we’re more comfortable with and understand each other well. But Sushant had other plans. And we can’t beat that [fate],” he adds.

He revealed his fondest memory with the late actor, “I’ll always remember every single moment I’ve spent with Sushant. I remember having meals with him and my mother. Both of them aren’t here now. I miss having breakfast with the two of them.”
