MUMBAI : The Burning Sun scandal also known as Burning Sun Gate was a top entertainment and sex scandal that took place in Seoul, South Korea back in 2019. A lot of celebrities, some of whom were from famous K-pop groups, and cops reportedly as per a Pinkvilla report were involved. BBC has aired a new documentary that has thrown light on the scandal and has gained interest.
The scandal had sent shockwaves through the entire K-pop industry with names of Seungri (BIGBANG), Jung Joon Young, Jonghyun (CNBLUE), Junhyung (Highlight), and Jonghun (F.T. Island) who were allegedly operating a sex chatroom. The Jung Joon Young KakaoTalk chatroom played an important role in the Burning Sun scandal. The scandals were linked and KakaoTalk conversations revealed crime taking place at the famous Burning Sun nightclub. It was all connected to K-pop singer Jung Joon Young, his friends and colleagues.
Text messages that were leaked from Jung Joon Young's phone revealed conversations and videos from 2015 to 2016. These proofs became important evidence in an investigation done by police resulting in gang rape convictions that had two separate victims. The names of Jung Joon Young Choi Jong Hoon of F.T. Island, an ex-Burning Sun employee named Kin, Kwon a businessman and an ex-YG Entertainment employee called Heo.
Jung Joon Hyung was charged with filming unconscious women, reportedly the number was 11. Seungri a BIGBANG member and also an important figure in the Burning Sun scandal faced charges of sharing pictures in an illegal manner in Jung's chatroom conversations.
