MUMBAI: There were rumors that a man's suicide death in the 1990s was related to his reported failure to meet actress Sonali Bendre during her Bhopal visit. In response to these claims, the actor said he was shocked and blown away by the actions of the alleged fans. Bendre expressed her shock at the incident and her concerns about the impact of extreme fan culture in her address on the well-known news portal.
Sonali replied, expressing shock and raising doubts about the accuracy of the information by asking, “Yeh sach hai? [Is it true]? How can someone…” She was then asked about any strange fan-related experiences she had, and she shared stories of getting fan mail that seemed to contain blood. “There’d be fan mails. We wondered if it was in actual blood. I’d be shattered, if it was. Best to appreciate, and leave it at that. How can people place humans on such a pedestal, that they’ll fall from, anyway?”
Sonali emphasized that she couldn't understand the intense obsession and idolization of Bollywood actors and the fan culture that surrounds them. She said, “I couldn’t understand that kind of obsession for somebody.” She added that she is unable to understand how someone can put any human being on that kind of a pedestal. That’s because she feels that person will eventually fall off, which is why she ‘could never put somebody up on a pedestal to that extent’.”
Sonali started her career as a model when she was a teen and worked on a lot of advertisements before moving into Bollywood.
Her parts in the films Diljale (1996), Duplicate (1997), Major Saab (1998), and Dhai Akshar Prem Ke (2000) earned her recognition. Significant events were recently marked by the 25th anniversary of her films Sarfarosh and Hum Saath Saath Hain, which were released earlier this year.
Sonali made her acting comeback with the web series The Broken News (2022), after taking a hiatus due to her cancer battle. Her most recent involvement in the aforementioned web series' second season demonstrates her continued commitment to both her craft and her relationship with her fans.
She had previously discussed her illness in an interview with a well-known news portal., “My illness has taught me that beauty is in imperfection. Perfect things are not as beautiful as imperfect things are. I have learnt to love my imperfections. Now, I don’t want to be stuck with just the looks. I want something beyond that which is where Broken News comes in.”
