MUMBAI: On Indian television, actor Rajesh Kumar is well-known, particularly for his iconic portrayal of Roshesh Sarabhai. Rajesh has appeared in a lot of films and OTT series lately. He claims that he has improved as an actor over the years, but in a recent interview with the popular news portal, Rajesh talked about some advice he got from Naseeruddin Shah when filming Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai.

Rajesh told the tale, explaining that although he began his career in comedy by dressing up as a dead body for a show, the art of expressing the right emotions he learned gradually. Rajesh Kumar recalls being scolded by Deven Bhojani for the same thing one day when they were discussing Sarabhai vs. Sarabhai.

He says, “One day Deven Bhojani got angry with me, he showed me the monitor and said that when it was my lines I was lively, but when I had no lines my expressions were dead. By then I had done a few shows, and I thought I was giving a reaction, but it was a blank face.”

He continued, “That day Naseeruddin sir was on set, and I could see that while I was being scolded he was there. After seven failed takes, Naseerji asked Deven for two minutes with me, he took me to the make-up room and said just one line to me. He said, ‘There are two kinds of actors – they are either born listeners, or they have to inculcate the habit of listening, start listening and your problem will be solved in whatever you do after this’, believe me, it took me 7 years to start hearing what the other person was saying.”

Regarding his career, Rajesh Kumar starred in the most recent season of Yeh Meri Family, Shahid Kapoor's Teri Baaton Mein Aisa Uljha Jiya, and Kota Factory, his most recent project. Rajesh will also be seen in Rautu Ka Raaz, a web series on Zee 5.
