Rajeev Khandelwal recalled a memorable meeting with Shah Rukh Khan at a party; 'Don't make me feel sh**ty...'

MUMBAI: Rajeev Khandelwal first appeared in Bollywood with the 2008 film Aamir and most recently as a fictional Bollywood star in Disney + Hotstar's 2024 series Showtime, offering a humorous anecdote about his first encounter with Shah Rukh Khan. Rajeev was completely taken aback by the superstar's sudden approach and went completely star-struck!

Rajeev Khandelwal recently spoke with Radio Nasha on his first encounter with Shah Rukh Khan. He said that when they met, he was seated with his leg resting on the table.

“Saamne dekha Shah Rukh and Karan (Johar) aa rahe hain, maine pair nichhe kiye ki seniors hain (I saw Shah Rukh Khan walking up towards me with Karan Johar. I put my feet down from the table in respect)” he recalled.

When Shah Rukh Khan introduced himself, a surprised Rajeev said, “Ab aap bhi introduce karoge mere ko (Now, you will introduce yourself to me!) Don’t make me feel sh**ty right now.”

Rajeev Khandelwal had a memorable encounter with many Bollywood stars at a centennial celebration for Aviation Minister Praful Patel’s father in Maharashtra. Although he was the only TV actor invited, he went because he was performing. The actor recalled a funny moment when he messed up his performance in front of Shah Rukh Khan, Sanjay Dutt, and Karan Johar.

In the same interview, Rajeev recalled a time he knelt to touch the feet of famed actor Dev Anand as a way of paying tribute to him. However, Dev Anand stepped to stop him. Rajeev stared, “I went to Dev saab and I touched his feet. He stopped me there and asked ‘what are you doing?’ I said ‘sir, you inspire me’. He said ‘if that is the case then I should be touching your feet because youngsters like you inspire me a lot.”

After beginning his TV career with Kya Hadsaa Kya Haqeeqat, Rajeev Khandelwal gained rapid recognition for his portrayal of the endearing beauty Sujal Garewal in Ekta Kapoor's Kahiin To Hoga.

He was adored by women, and in time, he was transformed into a romantic icon. However a year later, he made the brave choice to leave the show, and he went on to do documentaries and non-fiction shows.
