MUMBAI : Salim Khan, a Bollywood screenwriter who recently starred in the documentary series Angry Young Men, talked about how difficult it was to follow his goals in Mumbai at first and how he eventually succeeded there. Khan also disclosed that a home close to Marine Drive was his first home in Mumbai.

Khan disclosed on an episode of Angry Young Men that he resided at the Marina Guest House on Marine Drive and that he would rent a half-room for Rs 55. "My first ambition was to rent the entire room for Rs 110, but that wish was never fulfilled," he rued.

Khan recalled his early years in Indore as "comfortable," but he decided to "struggle" to achieve his dream of becoming a successful actor. As a result, he traveled to Mumbai without receiving any financial support from his family.

Khan also remembered having to take on odd jobs and gigs around the city to make ends meet because he was constantly worried about his money and job security. "I needed the money so I accepted anything. I did cigarette ads, clothing ads, whatever came my way," he shared.

He also understood at that time that his real potential lay behind the cameras rather than in front of them. "I could explain a character to actors like Dilip Kumar or Amitabh Bachchan, but I couldn’t perform myself. I had the art of narration and conceiving, but I lacked the art of projection," he shared.

At that point, Khan decided to give up acting in favor of improving his screenwriting skills, which is how he ultimately found success.
