Moon Banerrjee: TV shows are made for a certain sect of audience which makes the shows very regressive

MUMBAI: Actress Moon Banerrjee, who has bene part of many shows such as Sasural Genda Phool, Sasural Simar Ka -2, Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi, Muskaan, Muskurane Ki Wajeh Tum Ho, says that she has always been lucky to have got meaty roles. She adds that she values each and every show she has been part of.

“I am always looking for roles that has contribution towards the story and if its meatier than its a cherry on the cake. I am fortunate to have been approached for roles which are important and at times challenging, I am always looking for experimenting with different roles,” she says.

She adds, “I have played positive roles more than negative.... Sasural Genda Phool, Sasural Simar Ka -2, Kuch Rang Pyaar Ke Aise Bhi, Muskaan, Muskurane Ki Wajeh Tum Ho, Teri meri Doriyan and, of course, when I started my career during those days there were shows like Kasauti Zindagi Kay, Kkusum, Rishton Ki Dor, Kamal, Kyonki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi. Then I had series of advertising days where one of the famous one was Sunsilk. I have also done a Telugu film called Yagnam.”

Ask her if she feels actors still get typecast on screen, and she says, “Yes, they do, once an actor plays a certain role and gets accepted by the audience it becomes a boon and a drawback for the actor. People want to see him or her in those types of roles only.”

Talking about how the industry has changed, she says, “Many changes have happened. Shows have very less time on air and they get replaced overnight. Sometimes, some shows don't see the daylight, even after shooting for many episodes. They get canned, the audience has shifted to OTT so TV shows are made for a certain sect of audience which makes the shows very regressive at times. Over all the whole television sector has taken a drastic change which doesn't seem workable at times.”

She adds, “I want to see a progressive shift on television where there is a certain equality in terms of roles, commercials and more light and fun shows to be made. There should be more slice of life shows and romcoms.”
