MUMBAI: Baisakhi, the joyous spring harvest festival celebrated by Sikhs, marks the beginning of their New Year and carries profound religious significance, particularly in Northern India.  It is a time of vibrant celebrations and community bonding, observed annually on April 13th as per the Nanakshahi calendar. The spirit of celebration is palpable across the country, especially among Northern India’s communities for whom the day holds immense cultural and spiritual value. Commemorating the harvest season and marking the Sikh New Year, Baisakhi is a time for gratitude, devotion, and joyful gatherings. Sharing her thoughts on this special occasion, Priya Thakur from Vasudha talks about her childhood memories of celebrating this festival in Chandigarh and plans of celebrating it this year in Mumbai. Here’s what she has to say..

Priya Thakur, who essays the role of Vasudha in Zee TV’s Vasudha said, “Baisakhi brings back a lot of childhood memories, especially since it's widely celebrated in Chandigarh. I remember how all my friends would gather to visit the Gurudwara in the evenings to sing spiritual folk songs and reflect on our blessings. Then, we all used to go for Nagar Kirtan processions, where devotees sing devotional hymns and chant through the streets with a festive vibe. This year, since I’m in Mumbai, I plan to visit the nearby Gurudwara, participate in prayers, and listen to songs that bring me back to my childhood. I’m really looking forward to experiencing the vibrant celebration of Baisakhi here.”
