I’ve been genuinely overwhelmed by the love: Disha Upadhyay on feedback for Meri Bhavya Life

MUMBAI: Disha Upadhyay, who is seen as Rama in Meri Bhavya Life, which is produced by Sunjoy Waddhwa under his banner Sphereorigins, is happy with the response she has received for the show and her character.

She said, “I’ve been genuinely overwhelmed by the love. People come up to me and say, “Aap wohi Rama Mausi ho na? Bilkul asli lagti hain!” That’s the biggest compliment when audiences forget you’re acting. Some say they see their own relatives in Rama Mausi, which just proves how deeply rooted and relatable the character is.”

She mentioned that her character brings both conflict and care and added, “She’s that person who says what she shouldn’t but also what everyone else is afraid to. Her presence helps reflect the deeply internalized biases in our society. But what I love is that she isn’t static. She grows. And that growth mirrors the journey the audience takes with Bhavya—from judgment to empathy.”

Disha called the show a brave attempt and stressed that it doesn’t sugarcoat. She said, “It presents body shaming the way it actually happens—subtly, casually, within families, hidden behind ‘concern’ or ‘advice.’ And by showing Bhavya’s quiet resilience and occasional outbursts, it holds up a mirror to how we treat people who don’t fit into society’s molds.”

“It’s definitely started conversations, even within my own circles,” she added.

She also stressed that women are subjected to body shaming more as compared to men. She said, “There’s a harsher lens on women, especially when it comes to appearance. A man with a belly is seen as successful, ‘settled.’ A woman with curves is often judged unfit or unmarriageable. It’s not a level playing field. Meri Bhavya Life exposes that double standard beautifully and unapologetically.”

What can the audience expect next? “Without giving too much away, let’s just say Rama Mausi might surprise you. There are layers to her that we’re just beginning to explore. She might still joke, still taunt, but you’ll see cracks in her façade, a softening, a reflection. I think viewers will enjoy watching her wrestle with her own beliefs,” Disha concluded.
