Talented actress Shilpa Shinde who plays the character of Daya Mai in Life OK’s popular show Do Dil Ek Jaan is not happy with the way her strong underworld lady don character is being portrayed in the popular Nautanki Telefilms show.
Letting her heart speak, Shilpa told us, “I had been promised quite a lot at the narration level. I was even given references to Ammaji (Na Aana Is Des Laado). Sadly though they are only concentrating on me as the foster mother of Raghu (Ayaz Ahmed). I had left many other shows before this project happened to me. There was also an offer where I had to essay the mom to a 16 year old. The only reason why I agreed to be a mother of a 25 year old boy here was because I thought I will get to play the female version of God Father. My character which is shown as a very soft looking lady who is a don requires much more layering than what is being done. You can’t leave it mid-way. Our TV does not give space for grayish shades; you need to be either totally black or white. The channel and production house have also made no attempt to either promote my character or me. It is not only with Daya Mai; I think this injustice is being done to several other important characters as well. I don’t know what the channel strategy is. Agreed this is a love story, but yet given the daily format, other characters must also be given due space around the leads.”
So did you speak to Producer Saurabh Tewari? “Well, he is apparently busy with his upcoming film and other projects. He seems to have delegated the responsibility of this show to his associates.”
It seems that Shilpa has already made up her mind to move out. “I have informed them about my decision. But a final move might take some time, for even they will need to find a replacement. I don’t want to walk out in a huff and be unprofessional, though many prefer to do it.”
Shilpa also is a bit mindful that her decision might be misinterpreted as her nature to walk out of shows mid-day, as she had quit Chidiya Ghar due to creative issues as well. “I am a hard worker who does my job to the T. Having said that, I can’t continue in a set up, where I am not getting my due. I don’t work just for per day (money). I have done quality work before (Waaris) and this is just not happening here.”
We understand your sentiments, Shilpa.
