In a recent interview, Romit opened up about a chapter from his personal life that had long remained under wraps—his relationship with actress Shilpa Shinde.
Reflecting on the past, Romit revealed that the two first met 16 years ago on the sets of Maayka and soon developed a close bond. “Shilpa is a kind-hearted person, always respectful towards everyone on set. We got along really well and, at the time, I believed she was the one—and she felt the same,” he shared.
The couple dated for six months and even received their families’ blessings before deciding to tie the knot. However, as time passed, they began to realise that they weren’t truly compatible.
“We both have strong personalities and strong opinions. Eventually, we understood that it just wouldn’t have worked,” Romit explained, adding that it was Shilpa who ultimately chose to call off the wedding—a decision he now sees as the right one for both of them.
Despite the emotional chapter, Romit spoke with grace and maturity, noting that both he and Shilpa have since moved on and are thriving in their respective lives and careers.
As he continues to win hearts with his role in Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai, Romit Raj remains a testament to resilience both professionally and personally.
