Hungama's Zohran: The next super hero

After the success of super hero Hatim on the Indian television front, seems production houses have got a winning formula on hands. We are talking about the soon-to-be-aired fantasy kid's show, Zohran, backed by Contiloe and Shri Jaganath Films. To be telecast on Hungama TV, the story is about the titular hero, who is all set to rescue a princess (played by Chandana Sharma) from a far away island and en route to the mission he goes through various escapades of valour and bravado.

Neha, Creative Head, Shri Jaganath Films, says, "Zohran is about an outlaw sailor's adventure journey. The show is fantastic in genre and we are looking at an age group of 8-18 years. The show is going to feature Zohran's sea and island adventures till he meets the princess. Zohran also has two accomplices a kid called Chota Rana and a dwarf called Gustav. There are amazing special effects by Disney and that is something that has been done for the first time on TV." Sachin Varma who essays Zohran, the lead, avers, "It's a different character compared to the soaps, its definitely not realistic but its fun. I have more to do as male actor than I can in any show. Also I get to dress differently; it has a pirate look, though it is not as heavy or serious as pirate's venture. Here it's all game, wits and bravery, no super hero powers." So what made him move to children's entertainment after a full fledged romantic show Pyaar Ki Kashti Mein, " Well, its not children's entertainment anymore, its more general! Today we all want a break from the kind of shows that are on air and everybody likes to watch such shows, not just kids." However is it not airing on a predominantly kids channel, Hungama? That observation he vents out that most channels do not experiment with new shows and it will take its time to wear off the soap halo. Munisha Khatwani who also stars in one of the episodes relates her experience, "I agreed to shoot for them because of my dear friend Aditya Singh. I am playing a character from the stone-age Flintstone family; it is very similar to Martha Flintstone. As it is a supernatural show I was pretty excited about playing someone who is different from the rest, it is rare that you get to do good fun stuff." Munisha echoes Sachin's emotions that "the show is for kids but not just them! "I am glad I did this show as it was a good experience to play someone who lives in a cave and not a palatial house of mothers and mother-in-laws!" You can catch Zohran at 7:30pm on weekdays on Hungama. While closing our conversation on the show, Munisha confidently states that there are going to be more of such shows as its time for TV to grow. And we wish just the same.
