MUMBAI: Well-known film and drama actor D Philip passed away at a private hospital in Thiruvananthapuram at the age of 79 years. The timing of his funeral will be decided after his son arrives from abroad.
The actor came to the cinema after being noticed for his unforgettable performances in professional theatres. He was one of the lead actors of the Kalidasa Kalakendra and Kerala People’s Arts Club.

He started his acting career as a student of legendary thespian and theatre personality. He earlier won the state award for his performance in the play Rainbow of Kalidasa Kalakendra in 1986. He also acted in over 50 films, including Kottayam Kunjachan, Artham, Pazhassiraja, Time, Onnaman and Ezhupunnatharakan among others.
His work in serials has also been admired by fans and critics alike. He has been noted in Sthree, Malootty, Swami Ayyappan, Crime and Punishment, Vava, and Kadamattathu Kathanar.

He was originally known as Dileep Gopalakrishnan and was born on October 27, 1968, in Ernakulam, Kerala, India. The actor held jobs as a mimicry artist and as an assistant director. His focus then shifted to acting after his big break in Maanatha Kottaarathil.
Dilip had a Master’s Degree in History and he launched his own production company ‘Grand Productions’ with the help of his brother and friend Anoop. He is also known for his constant associations with directors like Joshiy, Lal Jose, Rafi and Mecartin.
