MUMBAI : Kabir Singh Duhan is one of the biggest names in the South film industry. The actor has played negative roles in many films down South, and soon, he will be making his Hindi film debut as well.
TellyChakkar interacted with Kabir a few days ago, and spoke to him about doing positive roles, upcoming projects and more...
You are mainly known for playing negative roles. But, would like to play a positive role as well in future?
It was not easy for me to move to the South. But, this was all pre-planned because I wanted to play characters with grey shades. In the Hindi film industry there’s no action hero, that position is empty. There’s Tiger who does action, but there’s no manly action hero like Jason Statham in Hollywood, so that kind of position is empty in the Hindi film industry. So, I want to fill that place. So, if I get an action film then I want to explore that genre. Even in the South if I get a comedy film, I say no because I want to work in my genre only. I have completed my first Hindi film, I can’t reveal about it as I am in a contract, but that’s a hardcore action big-budget film.

As you are doing a Hindi film now, what made you take such a long time to sign a Hindi movie?
It took me such a long time because I look very good on screen (laughs). It’s not like I was not getting calls. Since the last five to six years, I have been getting a lot of calls, but it’s just that I was looking for a big film. In the South, I have done so many big films, and in all I was the negative lead. So, in Hindi I wanted a big film, a negative lead role, a big production house and a big director. One actor needs to understand where he fits, so I was looking for that character and I have finally got it.
Apart from this Hindi film, what other projects do you have lined up?
I have two Marathi films coming up. I have three Telugu movies, two Kannada movies, and two Tamil films lined up and of course the Hindi film that I am doing. So, I have around 10-12 films lined up.
One of his Marathi films titled Phakaat has hit the big screens today.
