MUMBAI: Ramya Krishnan is a well known face in the Telugu and Kannada film industry. The actress has also been seen in many hit Bollywood blockbusters like Khal Nayak, Bade Miyan Chote Miyan, among many others. The actress who turned 53 on September 15th, hit the jackpot playing the role of Shivagami in the Prabhas starrer Baahubali.
Did you know that the role of Sivagami was first offered to actress Sridevi? And how Ramya got the part is quite a controversial tale. Film director SS Rajamouli and producer Sobhu Yarlagadda first approached actress Sridevi to play the role of the fierce matriarchal queen Sivagami in Baahubali. Sridevi however allegedly asked for a fee of Rs 10 Crores for the part, a full hotel floor for her family, staff as well as 10 flight tickets for them from Mumbai to Hyderabad; due to which the deal fell flat.
Speaking about it to a news portal, post the film’s release, SS Rajamouli said, “After hearing series of wishes from her (Sridevi), our team got fed up. We also thought that it would be above our budget to meet her demands. Then we approached Ramya Krishnan and she proved herself fantastic and we now feel, we were lucky that we dropped the idea of having Sridevi in our film.”

Later while promoting her film MOM, Sridevi spoke about this and said, “But, when you hear such things about yourself, you really get hurt. I don’t know if the producer wrongly told Rajamouli that I made all these demands or there could have been some miscommunication. I think it is not in good taste to speak on a public platform like this,”
Baahubali is one of the most successful franchises that broke all box office records. The film is one of the most expensive films made in Indian cinema and starred Prabhas, Rana Daggubati, Anushka Shetty, Tamannaah Bhatia, Nasser, and Sathyaraj among others.
