Bengali TV actors share Rakhi memories and wishes

Raksha Bandhan is an occasion of brothers and sisters. On this day, a sister ties Rakhi on her brother’s wrist and prays for his well-being while the brother vows to protect her for the whole life. We all have our own sweet memories revolving around the occasion.

So, Tellychakkar.com caught up with a few Bengali TV actors who shared their Rakhi memories and also wished their fans. Read on.

Geetashree Roy: I begin the occasion by tying the sacred thread on Gopal’s (child form of Lord Krishna) wrist and then comes my brother’s turn. When we were children, we used to exchange chocolates, storybooks, pens and diaries on Rakhi but things have changed now. Instead of gifting each other, now we spend quality time over movies or outings. I think we all can make this occasion a wonderful one by bringing smiles on the faces of the less privileged. Like all of us, they too expect that someone will tie a Rakhi on their wrists. Can’t we bring a change by putting little effort? I got the opportunity of doing it once. I wish everyone a very happy Rakhi.

Indrajit Chakravarty: I don’t know whether to call it my good or bad luck but in school girls preferred not to tie a Rakhi on my wrist. However, I used to receive lots of friendship bands. Interestingly, I met a girl through common friends around a decade back, who felt that I resembled her brother. She tied me Rakhi and makes sure to wish me on the occasion. I would like to tell my fans that it is a beautiful occasion. Many people don’t have their own brothers and sisters but by tying Rakhi they make some their own and over the years, the bonding becomes strong.

Madhumita Sarkar: When we were kids, my brother used to gift me chocolates costing around Rs. 20-30 and during those days it really meant expensive. But my brother was so naughty that he never let me eat the complete chocolate. He used to tell me that I will become fat if I eat the whole chocolate and so every time the major part of the chocolates used to go inside his stomach! I miss those sweet days. My brother and I share a deep bonding. It was my brother with whom I had shared about my affair first. We used to share the same room. Due to shooting, I often used to return late and so he used to keep the dim light on so that I don’t face any problem in the room. Now I am married but he still keeps the light on. I wish everyone a very happy Rakhi. I would request people to not make fun of the sacred thread by tying it on anyone’s wrist. If you are tying it then also respect the relationship.  Rakhi is a sweet occasion; it sweetens the bonding between a sister and her brother.

Rajib Basu: Rakhi means getting loads of gifts from my didi (elder sister). Since my birthday (14th August) falls closer to this date, it’s a double bonanza for me. As a child, I used to get anything that I demanded from her. Although now she stays in Mumbai, she still pampers me a lot. She might not be present here on Rakhi every year but will never miss my birthdays. This year she is here in Kolkata which means I am again getting double gifts from her. My wishes for my fans would be to tell them to not make everyone their brothers and sisters or else they might find difficulty in finding a partner (wink). On a serious note, I will say that respect the meaning of Rakhi. We often get to hear stories about crimes against women. So, stand up for the safety and protection of your sister.

Ronita Das: Earlier, the occasion meant tying Rakhi on my cousins’ wrists and gifting sweets. Now owing to my hectic shooting schedule, I hardly get time to celebrate. However, I make sure that I message my cousins on Rakhi. My wishes for my fans would be that Rakhi is not only about siblings; it can be celebrated with your loved ones too. According to Rabindranath Tagore, it's a celebration of mankind and of humanity.

Happy Rakhi guys!!!
