Why Indian TV needs more finite series

It's time the Indian television went in for a makeover. A much needed one, in fact. For decades, this interactive medium has been ruled by never ending tales of saas-bahu sagas. Don't you feel that it's time to change? It's time to bring in more seasons or finite series like the west? We tell you why we should...read on.

No more 'to be continued...':

Audiences are tired of this trick where the makers want you to come back tomorrow and watch the serial further to unravel the mystery. Bah. Too forced and unimaginative. We should definitely learn from our western counterparts and make single-episode shows that are more relevant, interesting and tolerable.

Better experimentation:

Instead of dragging the series on, one has the freedom to experiment on a day-to-day basis. It not only keeps our curiosity higher, but also gives the writers chance to experiment better. Perhaps that's why American shows run for so long without comprising on the quality of the content. Having a single theme with multiple conclusions in everyday episodes is a must on the small screen. Agree?

Guest stars galore:

When you have such concepts, you can bring in guest stars to add spice to the storyline. It wouldn't look out of place either as you can weave in the story as and how you like. An ensemble cast works well in such shows as everybody has something to contribute to the show, unlike our melodramatic soaps.

Newer tracks:

From romance to revenge to action to thriller, finite series can introduce newer tracks that can keep the audiences interested in the show. It further gives time for the characters and plot to grow and mature. This really does add a different dimension to the story. When will our makers learn to cash in on this tried and tested formula?

Readers, do you agree with the idea of seasons or love the soap format of shows? Do let us know.
