Tellychakkar got in touch with the actor and got to know interesting insights about the actor.
Who are you gelling up with the most on set?
“I have been shooting only with the ones playing my family members, my father, mother, and brother. I think from the very first day, the bonding between us has been amazing, whether off-screen or on the camera. I feel very comfortable. There are a lot of emotional scenes with the parents so both of them being senior actors, they have been very cooperative. I feel very relaxed. I have to work with other actors and figure out the equations.”
You have been a part of the industry for so long. How has the journey been for you?
“The journey has been exactly the way I wanted it to be. I never wanted to get into the mainstream type of “saas-bahu” shows which goes on for 2-3 years. This is not just about now, at the beginning of my career itself, I made a very conscious decision and effort not to get into that path. I created my parallel path where I waited for the right kind of roles which would make me grow as an actor. Once I realized the meat of that character is over, then I would wait for the next. But that wait would take up to almost a year and I wouldn’t say everyone should attempt it. It is very tough but fortunately, I could manage it.”
You have done a variety of shows but you are still and will always be known as Hatim. How do you feel about that tag?
“It is a gift from the almighty that people gave me that tag. People die for that tag. If reality TV was not there, it would be very difficult for television actors to be known by their real names. In 2001, when I started, there was not much media like there is today. Nobody knew the actor by their real name until 2004-2005 when reality shows started. I have never attempted a reality show and I am absolutely fine that people relate to me as Hatim. But the plus point here is that they accept me in every role I do. The tag makes me feel proud because there is no other Hatim, it is only me. Even after so many years, they still remember me as Hatim. It is a point of pride and respect for me. This is the biggest gift from television. Even though people know me by the name Hatim, I have never been typecasted as Hatim. There have been different subjects which I have attempted.”
