Pristinely pretty, with the bright-eyed girly appeal, Gautami Kapoor has captured hearts of millions fans as Tulsi of Kyunki Saas Bhi Kabhi Bahu Thi.
Along with Ram Kapoor, Gautami has continued to scale the heights in the entertainment business. In truth, she breathes the same air as her husband.
Gautami is currently on a break post her Parvarrish stint and enjoying family time with the husband and kids.
Tellychakkar.com caught up with the talented actress for a freewheeling interview. Excerpts:
Post Parvarrish, when do you plan to make your TV comeback?
After being a part of Khelti Hai Zindagi Aankh Micholi, Tere Sheher Mein and Parvarrish season 2 back to back, I wanted to take a small gap. Unless something exciting comes up, I don’t wish to rush.
Can we see you and Ram together on TV anytime soon?
I would love to, but currently, Ram has taken a break from TV as he is concentrating on movies.
Why do you think Parvarrish 2 didn’t manage to gain as much popularity as season 1?
I think the production (DJ’s A Creative Unit) and channel are the right people to answer this question. When I gave my nod to the project, it had a different concept, but went onto the thriller mode later. I chose to be a part of the show as it dealt with issues of teenagers. However, in the race of TRPs, everything went for a toss.
Does Ram watch you on TV?
He watches a lot of my work. He is my critic and gives me good suggestions.
Will we see you kissing onscreen?
I am not comfortable kissing onscreen.
Are you fine with Ram kissing onscreen?
I don’t know about now, but I was against the idea of Ram’s kissing scenes in Bade Acche Lagte Hain. But then I realised that kissing scene on TV is very mechanical. It’s only for camera, with no emotions involved. The smooch in Bade Acche was planned on a whim. Ram called me up to inform about the scene. At first, I said no but then I understood that it was part of an actor’s life. I also agreed because of Sakshi, as I have full faith on her.
What kind of a wife are you?
I am possessive. Kasam was the turning point for Ram, which fetched him many female fans. They would go crazy seeing Ram and he also used to enjoy all the attention.
Your Bollywood plans?
No Bollywood plans as of now. I am happy doing TV.
Why have you not explored more as an actor?
In television, you get typecast easily. I have never been offered roles which are out of my comfort zone.
You played a mature character of Tulsi at a very young age, so do you regret it?
Well, playing Tulsi was my biggest challenge. I consider it as the best character of my career. It was Ram who told me to take up the show. At that time, greying my hair never bothered me as I enjoyed doing it. We could sustain Kyunki for year after Smriti Irani moved out.
Actor, wife or mother- which is the most difficult role to play?
All three roles are challenging for any woman. But your journey is easier when you have the support of your husband. In my case, Ram has been very encouraging and has understood the balance between work and family.
Do you feel bad when people address you as Mrs Ram Kapoor?
Why should I be sad about it? I feel proud when people call me Mrs Ram Kapoor.
Keep up the good work, Gautami!
