Naagin!!!
The term brings in images and memories of conniving plots and vicious happenings. Naagin, the very theme, is contrast to something progressive and cheerful, thanks to stereotypical portrayal in popular GECs.
However, adding a touch of freshness and spinning a new scheme is SAB TV’s ‘alternative’ Naagin venture, Icchapyari Naagin (Alchemy Productions).
SAB TV, known for its rib-tickling positive shows, has hit the ball out of the park with Icchapyari. A naagin and that too a funny one? What an idea...sirji.
Playing the female protagonist is bubblicious Priyal Gor. She gained fame with Sony TV’s Dekha Ek Khwaab and with Icchapyari, is set to entertain one and all.
Tellychakkar.com got into a candid chat with the snake lady and here are excerpts from the interview.
Priyal, tell us why did you pick the show?
(Thinking) It’s been a while since I have been part of South Indian films but Hindi television has always fascinated me. The current trend of Naagins and Dayans is intriguing and when I was offered this project I couldn’t say a ‘no’. My earlier show Dekha Ek Khwaab narrated a story about a girl living in a chawl, who later became a princess. The same way Icchapyari Naagin’s story is very different and is never seen before on Indian television. For the first time people will watch a cute looking Naagin on TV.
Can you share more details about your character?
My character Iccha belongs to Naagistan. I would learn that people on Earth consider Naagins to be evil. Hence, I will visit Earth and enact wonders to change the perception.
We have already seen Mouni Roy as Naagin on TV. Are you ready with the comparison with her?
Honestly, there is no scope of comparison as the characters are very different. She was revengeful while I am playing a very cute and bubbly Naagin (smiles).
So now tell us about the powers you will have in Icchapyari?
The main power is shape shifting. I can take anyone’s form and also get back to being snake at will. Furthermore, if I sense a wrong happening or a wrong doing, I can correct it with magic.
How’s your bonding with co-star Mishkat Verma?
Mishkat is a fun guy and we gel well. In fact, my bond with the entire team of Icchapyari is good. I have lot of fun with Sadhil (Kapoor). He is very cute and golu molu. Everyone on the set is fond of Sadhil.
After comedy, which other genres would you like to experiment with?
I don’t mind to be part of thriller and supernatural based dramas. But I am not convinced with mythological and historicals. The dialogues are difficult to utter and even the costumes are heavy. Also, I am not keen on playing a negative character.
What is more satisfying...acting in TV or films?
Both. Being part of films is an amazing experience. However, I can never go away from television. After Dekha Ek Khwaab I was waiting for a right script. I see scope of growth both in films and TV.
How difficult is it to shoot down South being a Gujarati in real life?
Well, people are very helpful and accommodating in South. About language, I used to read the script and mug up dialogues and deliver once the Director said ‘action’.
Your take on reality shows?
I love reality shows. I enjoy watching as well wish to be a part of it. From Bigg Boss to dance reality shows, everything excites me. I would love to experience some formats.
In personal life, are you single or dating anyone?
I am very much single. Currently, my focus is on work. Having said that, I would love to be in a relationship.
Marriage plans?
I am 21. No marriage plans for the next few years.
Any TV actor you wish to work with in future?
I really like Karanvir Bohra, he is a great actor.
Good luck Priyal. Watch Icchapyari Naagin from 27 September Mon to Fri at 8pm only on SAB TV.
