One of small screen’s best bad guys is back in business. Shabbir Ahluwalia, the good bad man who shot to fame with Kaahin To Hoga is seen on two shows. While Meethi Choori No 1 has him playing referee to women in a bitch-out session, in Khatron Ke Khiladi 3, he is one among the 13 participants to get all chiggy wiggy with Priyanka Chopra. TellyChakkar spoke to Shabbir about all this and more.
You are perhaps the most media-shy television star. Any particular reason?
I am neither shy nor an introvert. It's just that when I am not working in any show or films, I prefer not to talk to the media. When I am working, I am always available to them.
What made you decide to take up KKK?
It's a fun show. It will interesting to see us perform dare devil stunts amidst spectacular locales in Brazil. I like challenges and I enjoy beating others in competitions! And when you get such opportunities in life you should grab them. The interesting part will be to watch my while I do those stunts. Will I be able to smile? Or will I be scared?
Since you have done Fear Factor on Sony earlier, will you have an extra edge?
This is a completely different format. I don’t think having participated in Fear Factor will give me any advantage. The stunts are much more dangerous in Khatron Ke Khiladi.
Are you consciously staying away from serials? If yes, what is the reason?
It is not a conscious decision. I have been doing fiction for the last seven-eight years. In serials, everyday you have to be your best and convince viewers about the character you are playing. I wanted a break from that. An actor needs time to rejuvenate and that is very important. One needs to be satisfied about one’s work. I went to Ladakh and Manali and did loads of trekking and spent quality time there.
In the show, only you and Karan Singh Grover are from the small screen. Everyone else is from the film world…
Not true! Cyrus Broacha is also from television. And among the others I know a few others like Gattu (Abhishek Kapoor) who is a friend. You have seen us on stage and we will have fun.
Did you follow any particular fitness regime for this show?
(Smiles) Since childhood I used to run a lot. I have been running since then! In my childhood I used to run away from my dad since I was very scared of him. I was very naughty and my dad used to search for me after he found about my deeds! Now don’t ask me what I did! Jokes apart, running everyday has always worked for me and it still does.
What is your fear factor?
To be very honest I really don't know what I am scared of! I can tell you I am not scared of water or heights. But in the show when I will be given specific stunts to perform like jumping from heights I am not sure how I am going to cope with it! In films and television shows, we do stunts with loads of safety measures, but this will be different.
What about your career in films?
After Mission Istanbul, nothing significant happened. I guess it's a journey and I will be getting offers from more films sooner or later. After every film you need to be convinced about your next role and I promise I will be back with a bang. For me, both film and television are equally important which is why I never quit the small screen while doing Mission Istanbul.
How has been the journey so far?
It’s been nice and is still on. I have not reached my destination yet. Acting in fiction shows to hosting and participating in a reality show has been a great learning process and I am still learning. Hosting Dancing Queen and watching 10 beautiful women dance was really a cherishable experience. Now it's Priyanka's turn to watch 13 men doing dangerous stunts and we will also be dancing to her tunes!
