AThe first Indian Idol, Abhijeet Sawant is on a roll. Beside his upcoming film and album, he is all set to enter Asian Idol. The show is a replica of the popular American show, American Idol and Abhijeet will be representing India. This reality show will be captured by Sony Entertain Television. On the personal front too the singer is a much-happy man as he is soon to get married to his long time sweetheart Shilpa.
"It's a great pleasure and honour to represent India on such a big show. The Asian Idol will take place in Indonesia. I am little nervous and excited too," says Abhijeet.
Talking about the format of the show he says, "It is the same as American Idol where five people from different Asian countries are going to participate. We are going to perform with a live band and viewers have to select the champion based on that one day performance by following a voting pattern."
Elaborating on the selection process he explains, "A code is assigned for each contender and audiences will have to send a sms with the code. The difference in selection pattern being that one has to vote for two performers. For e.g. if Indian citizens are voting for me they'll also have to vote for another contestant."
Abhijeet is required to sing in English and this is making him nervous. "The contestants will sing three local songs and three English songs. I'm not worried about Hindi songs but going live in front of huge audiences and that too in English is making me tense. I'm therefore now going in for some training. From tomorrow a singer is going to help me with the required skills. And above all we have to co-ordinate with the local band, whether we like it or not," he moans.
Talking about his upcoming marriage in December he complains, "I don't even have time to distribute my marriage cards. Asian Idol and my new album are taking up all my time. Recently we shot the third song ' Dhoonde…' for my new album 'Junoon' at the Pushkar mela. The schedule is very hectic and all the marriage work is being looked at by my family."
Here's hoping the Indian Idol becomes the next Asian Idol
