MUMBAI: Actor Akshay Dandekar is making waves with his portrayal of the conniving yet comical Amitabh Chaube in Ram Bhavan, a family drama helmed by Rahul Kumar Tewary and produced by Rolling Tales Production. Known for his strong character work, Dandekar dives deep into the psyche of a man who thrives on causing disruption—and yet manages to leave viewers both amused and intrigued.
“Amitabh is someone who always ends up taking something away—whether emotional or material,” says Dandekar. “At first, I struggled to connect with him, but slowly, I began enjoying it. I started treating him like any other character I’ve studied or read about.”
Having previously worked with Rahul Tewary and Rolling Tales in projects under One Life Studios and Maitoo, Dandekar feels at home with the team. “The atmosphere on set is like one big extended family. Rahul sir is shaping the story beautifully—making it deeply relatable to Indian households,” he shares.
Ram Bhavan stands out with its authentic portrayal of a joint family navigating everyday chaos with warmth and humor. “Despite all the troublemakers, the elderly couple and other family members remain grounded. That emotional relatability is the soul of Ram Bhavan,” Dandekar adds.
Amitabh Chaube, however, is far from grounded. “He’s a selfish, unpredictable man who doesn’t like seeing people happy,” says Dandekar. “Gayatri, his sister-in-law, uses him to stir trouble between Om and Isha. And yes, she pays him for it!”
While clearly a negative character, Amitabh brings comic relief with his antics. “There’s a certain fun in portraying someone so ridiculous. He’s the number one Topi baaz—a conman who only looks out for himself,” the actor quips.
With layered writing and strong performances, Ram Bhavan is steadily building a connection with audiences. Dandekar hopes the show reaches historic TRP numbers. “It’s the story of every Indian household—with love, fights, and family bonds. I just can’t wait for viewers to see what chaos Amitabh creates next!”
